Wednesday 5th Week of Lent

Today’ Mass Readings

Wednesday 5th Week of Lent

John 8:31-42

Freedom is that power to allow Christ to give us his increase right in the middle of whatever we are experiencing. We confidently leave the outcome to him.

Jesus said that he is the Son who sets us free.

So what is freedom?

Think of freedom as nothing else than
“The chance to be better.

I am truly free when I am becoming a better person
regardless of my current circumstances –
or maybe because of them”

(Living with Christ, March 2013 page 172).

This is why Shadrach, Meschech and Abednego
were free to walk into the blazing furnace.

They were not afraid to profess their faith in God
regardless of what happened to them.

One who looked like the Son of God was with them.

Freedom is that power to allow Christ to give us
his increase right in the middle
of whatever we are experiencing.

We confidently leave the outcome to him.

That is trust.

If we are afraid, he gives us courage to do the right thing.

If things seem hopeless, he gives us direction when we ask him for it.

If we are crippled by anxiety about the future,
he gives us peace by trusting in his providential care.

He already knows our lives in all their fullness.

He is just waiting for us to decide
if that is what we want as well.
