Saturday 17th Week of the Year

Today’s Mass Readings

Saturday 17th Week of the Year

Matthew 14:1-12

What is he repeating to us over and over that we have yet to act upon?

Sometimes we hear of someone who has a health issue
and are displaying symptoms but will not go to the doctor.

They fear what they might hear
about their physical health.

If we have been in that position,
we know what Herod was going through
when John the Baptist spoke to him
about his illicit marriage to Herodias.

He did not want to hear it.

Please notice, however, that he kept going back to John.

God can speak to us in many ways and many forms.

We hear his Word every day in Sacred Scripture.

He speaks to us in the good examples others set before us every day.

The Lord speaks to us in our conscience
when he tells us is something is dangerous
or just says, “No. Don’t do it.”

He speaks to us when the Holy Spirit inspires us to do good.

Sometimes he speaks to us in homilies and talks and books.

The Lord’s prophetic message is all around us.

The important question is,
what do we keep hearing?

What is he repeating to us over and over
that we have yet to act upon?

Herod went to an extreme and put to death the voice that could save him.

Please, God, we won’t silence that Voice of freedom and healing
and think that we can put it off.

The fact is, the voice keeps coming back
is the Lord’s thirst to heal us.

Let us sit down for a moment sometime today and satisfy his thirst.
