Thursday 1st Week of Lent

Today’s Mass Readings

Thursday 1st Week of Lent

Matthew 7:7-12

“If you then, who are wicked, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good things to those who ask him.”

Jesus is teaching us that his Father can only give us good gifts.

He can only give the best gifts.

Asking, seeking and knocking are ways
in which we prepare ourselves to receive those good gifts.

Sometimes I can get distracted
and focus my attention on the gifts rather than the Giver.

It’s like Peter getting out of the boat
and walking towards Jesus on the water.

He began to sink the moment he took his attention off of Jesus.

Only when he turned his attention back on Jesus was he safe.

The hand of Jesus was always reaching out to him but he could not see it.

So his hand is always reaching out to us

When we ask and seek and knock for something,
let us come to Jesus first
and rest our cares in his outreached hand.

Let us be completely indifferent how he answers our prayers.

Holy indifference frees us to trust God completely
knowing He can only give us what is good/best.

If we set our hearts on anything less
then what he wants to give us it will never be good.

Seek first things first – to be with Jesus,
and everything will be given to us –IN ABUNDANCE!!!
