Holy Name Society – John Lessl 393-3186 john.lessl@aonhewitt.com

The Holy Name Society traces its roots to the Council of Lyons in the year 1274, when Pope Gregory X convened a special council of bishops in Lyons, France to combat a heresy that was posing a serious challenge to the medieval church.  The Council prescribed that the faithful should have a special devotion to the Holy Names of God and Jesus.  The Dominican Order was asked to spread this devotion.  The Dominicans fervently executed the pope’s command, preaching everywhere the power and glory of the Holy Name of Jesus.

By virtue of its canonical ties to the Dominican Order, members of the Society share in a very special way the rich treasury of graces won for the Mystical Body of Christ by the passion and death of its head, Jesus Christ.   Every member of the Society, while they are faithful to their obligations, share in the blessings from the Masses, good works, preaching, teaching and manual labor of the Dominican Order.  In addition, indulgences are available for members through their devotion to the Holy Name of Jesus.  You can learn more about the Holy Name Society here.

The Holy Name Society at Blessed Sacrament meets on the first Monday evening after the first Sunday of each month from September thru May.  Meetings are held in the Parish Center.  The Holy Name Society sponsors various social events such as Oktoberfest, Entertainment Night and the Chuck a Luck booth at the Carnival.  Every month from September thru May, they also sponsor a breakfast or coffee and donuts after each Sunday Mass.  Proceeds from these events are used to provide support for our parish, school and other worthy causes such as Alpha House.  This year’s officers are: President John Lessl, Vice President Scott Riley, Secretary William Ehrbar and Treasurer Bob Lima.

We encourage parish members to come to a monthly meeting; assist in planning an event and/or volunteer to assist at an event.  In addition to serving your parish you will have fun and also meet other interesting and friendly parishioners.    For more information, contact John Lessl at 393-3186 or john.lessl@aonhewitt.com.
