Thursday 7th Week of Easter

Today’s Readings

Thursday 7th Week of Easter

John 17:20-26

How important are the words we speak to each other and the example we give every day. We probably don’t think much about that, but we leave something of ourselves in every interaction we have with another person.

“I do not pray for these only,
but also for those who believe in me through their word.”

How comforting to know that Jesus prayed to his Father
for us the night before he died.

And he prayed that we would believe in him through their Word,
that is the witness of his disciples.
We know that the Apostles traveled throughout Asia
gaining converts and disciples everywhere they went.

We’ve heard about those travels
in readings of the Acts of the Apostles at Mass every day.

How important are the words we speak to each other
and the example we give every day.
We probably don’t think much about that,
but we leave something of ourselves
in every interaction we have with another person.

It would be a good meditation to go through a typical day
and think of how we relate to others we encounter.

We can leave not only something of ourselves with them,
but Jesus can remain with them
because of the attention and time we give them.
It’s not only the words we use but how we speak them –
with respect or indifference or worse.

We receive Jesus in our hands and on our tongues
in Holy Communion every day.

May we use our hands and our tongues
in an honorable way,
so our words and actions
will speak of the love and mercy of Jesus
wherever we go.
