Monday 34th Week of the Year

Today’s Mass Readings

Monday 34th Week of the Year

Luke 21:1-4.

We have often heard that
“God cannot be outdone in generosity.”

When I hear this I sometimes think,
do I give to others so I will get more back?

This was not the attitude of the poor widow
who gave from her livelihood.

Her giving was one of great joy.

She was well aware of her sufferings and poverty.

She felt every day what it meant to not have enough.

And from there her heart was filled with compassion,
for she knew the sufferings of others.

For us to know the sufferings of others
like this widow, we would have to fast and sacrifice much
to feel the pain they experience every day.

When we give, and we feel the same after our gift,
we only gave from our abundance.

But when we give from our want,
our livelihood and feel it,
we will notice the difference.

But it will be cause for great joy.

When we give from our livelihood,
we give from our heart, and this act of love is so fulfilling
because we gave to Jesus.

I promise, it is so fulfilling,
we will never miss what we gave.

Jesus promised that our joy would be complete.
